Cheshire and Warrington is part of the Devolution Priority Programme (DPP).
April 2025
Government-led public consultation closed on 13 April 2025.
September 2025
All three councils in Cheshire and Warrington agreed to establish a Cheshire and Warrington Combined Authority with an elected Mayor.
November 2025
The Parliamentary process to create the new Combined Authority commenced in November 2025 and is expected to finish by February/March 2026.
February 2026
The new Cheshire and Warrington Combined Authority legally established on 24th February 2026.
Summer 2026
English Devolution Bill secure Royal Assent in summer 2026, securing additional functions to be devolved and shift to the new authority.
Mid 2026
Mayoral Investment Fund goes live 2026 (50% of total before Mayoral election £10.8 million).
March 2027
Local Transport Authority created by March 2027, enabling integrated approach.
April 2027
Adult Skills responsibility and funds devolve from April 2027.
May 2027
Mayoral elections in May 2027 (Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester local elections at the same time).
